Episode 11: Faith Over Lawsuits — How the Smitty Bros Chose God's Way Over Fighting for Bitchin’ Sauce

In Episode 11 of the Smitty Bros SauceCast, hosts Ryan and Porter Smith open up about one of the most painful chapters in their business journey: the family conflict that led to their separation from their original company, Bitchin’ Sauce. Joined by a special guest—Porter's mother-in-law Vicki—this episode explores how a single email rooted in biblical truth changed the course of their lives and business.

Vicki, calling in from Idaho, had been involved in the business from early on, even demoing Bitchin’ Sauce at Whole Foods in Boise. But when the company was taken over and restructured by a family member, Ryan and Porter were left devastated—cut off from the brand they helped build. In the face of betrayal, legal threats, and financial uncertainty, it was Vicki who pointed them back to the Bible.

She shared a powerful message from 1 Corinthians that challenged them not to take their sister to court, even though they believed they were in the right. “Why not rather be wronged?” the scripture asked. That principle became their anchor.

Rather than fight for Bitchin’ Sauce in court, the brothers offered church-led mediation—a path rooted in faith. When that offer was declined, they chose to walk away completely. They resigned from the original corporation, gave up any claim to the brand, and started over from scratch.

Vicki’s wisdom came from personal experience—she had once gone to court against a sibling and called it the worst day of her life. Her bold advice—“you will all lose, guaranteed”—proved prophetic. Although the brothers lost a business, they gained something far more valuable: freedom, peace, and a testimony of obedience to God.

Today, Ryan and Porter reflect on the spiritual blessings that have come from choosing the narrow path. Though they left Bitchin’ Sauce behind, they believe their story is just beginning—and that God’s redemption is unfolding in ways far greater than financial success.

This episode is a powerful reminder that faith, not fear, should guide every decision—even when it means letting go of something you poured your life into.
